They can see well at night
Most animals sleep in a relaxed state, but hamsters do something interesting with their sleep.
Hamsters tend to be fairly social, so when they sleep they tend to snuggle up into a ball and go into what is called a hutch. A hutch is like your own little room, it is where you put your things and you spend a lot of time in it.
While in the hutch, they are kept insulated from other animals by being inside a small, well-defined space. This is called an enclosure.
The process of going to sleep can be very strange. Some hamsters will shut their eyes right away, while others will take several seconds before giving in and sleeping.

They use their sense of smell more than their vision

Plants that you would probably consider edible for a hamster include wild grapes, blackberries, and under-ripe apples. Some insects you can try are summer-squeeze bugs or cuttings from fabric seat covers due to their waxy coating that helps them stay hidden when placed in the Hamster’s cage.
Their vision is better at close range
Most animals see best at medium and long distances, where they can calculate their next move in thanks to the blur effect created by their eyes.
This is because the part of their brain that regulates vision works better in these distances than it does at close range. It’s a similar system to our visual systems, which don’t work well down to the last metre but that comes in handy when measuring objects up close.
Hamsters have very good vision at close range thanks to two things: prisms in the back of their eye and a little lens inside the rest of their eye. Prisms help focus light even more closely, allowing them to see details as small as 0.02 metres.
At longer distances, though, hamsters still need a little help with how they view the world, because they don’t have very good short-distance vision. This is why you need to be at least 20 cm (8 inches) away from your hamster before it can see you.
